OK, I don’t want to be a Judgy McJudgerson, but OMG!!!!! Have you seen the news that’s swarming around the internet about the couple who practices Breatharianism???? Meaning they live almost exclusively off of “the universe’s energy” and haven’t eaten more than broth or bite of fruit in nine years. Actually, screw that. I do want to be a Judgy McJudgerson about this. WTF is wrong with these people?
Apparently Akahi Ricardo and Camila Castello believe that they are surviving on “cosmic nourishment.” (I wonder how many calories are in “cosmic nourishment?”) They claim that they are living off of just three meals per week consisting of just broth and/or a piece of fruit. Well, THAT sounds healthy. (Insert eye roll.)
The couple claims they stopped eating food after completing a 21 Day Breatharian Process during which they only consumed air, then air and diluted juice, then air, diluted juice and water. For 21 days. And apparently they enjoyed starving themselves so much that they just decided to keep it up. For YEARS.
“I haven’t felt hungry since that process in 2008,” Ricardo told the Sun.
Hmmmm, I haven’t felt hungry in like the past 20 minutes, wonder if I could be a Breatharian? Ricardo thinks I could. He told the Sun that, “Anyone can live a Breatharian lifestyle and feel the benefits. It’s not about never eating food again, it’s about understanding cosmic nourishment (not just physical nourishment) and living without limits.” Errrrr … nope.
He also bragged about how much money they save on groceries. BRAAAAAA HAAAA HAAAAA. Why didn’t I think of that? I’ll save oodles on grocceries and just STOP EATING. Ricardo bragged that unlike us food-consuming morons, they get to spend all their cash on travel!!! I mean I can’t even. How do they even have the energy to travel subsisting on a bite of fruit and some water?
But here’s the kicker. Castello claims she didn’t really eat during her entire first pregnancy. Wait, what????? How is that OK????
“I didn’t feel the need or desire to eat solid food during the entire nine months and so I only ate five times, all of which were in social situations.” Castello told the Sun. (Apparently they haven’t forced their kids to be Breatherarians. THANK GOD!!!)
The first thing I thought when I read that was “WHOA! Poor baby!” I mean, how is it possible to grow an entire healthy human without eating? Why is she starving her fetus? How is that OK? How is that even legal? When I was pregnant I pretty much stuffed my face constantly (and gained oodles of pregnancy weight). Not because I’m unhealthy, but because that’s what my body needed to do. It needed calories to grow a human. Castello claims her baby was healthy and her “doctor confirmed the above-average growth of a very healthy baby boy.” But I call B.S. I think she was sneaking Snickerdoodle ice cream the whole time.
People can’t live without food and water. That’s a fact. A scientific fact. Experts say the longest people can go without water is about 7-10 days. And then they get dehydrated and start hallucinating and then they go into organ failure and die. And according to Snopes, these Breatherarian people are either in denial or lying about how much they eat. Because it’s simply not possible to live on air and the “energy of the universe” alone.
So what’s the deal here? Are these people insane? Are they lying? Are they delusional? Do they eat more than they claim they do? Because there’s simply no way to survive on the energy of the universe and a couple bites of fruit per week. And that’s a fact.
