YAY! Summer is here! YIKES! Summer is here! When you’re a parent, summer is a love/hate thing for sure. There’s no routine, no rushing out of the house, no making lunches—which is all AWESOME. But then there’s the messes, the sibling fighting and the constant whining. Which is less awesome. Well you know me, I’d rather laugh than cry about it, so I made a video to celebrate the fun and shake off the stress of summer. Enjoy my rap “Summer Life” with Responsibility.org!
Responsibility.org is an amazing organization that leads the fight to eliminate drunk driving and underage drinking. They have awesome tools to help us make responsible choices around drinking and educate our kids about making smart decisions about alcohol. And believe it or not, those conversations should start early. Like, really early. Their #TalkEarly program is for parents of kids 6-9. Because the sooner (and more often) we start talking about responsible alcohol consumption, the better.
I decided to be a #TalkEarly ambassador because my father was an alcoholic. He used to drive drunk with me and my brother in the car. It was a terrifying thing to live through as a child and I don’t want a single kid to experience what I experienced. And I worry that all the “Mommy Needs a Drink” memes that are rampant on the Internet these days are sending a really bad message to our children. It’s time to change the conversation!
So join me this summer in re-branding Happy Hour. Let’s make it a time to be happy and spend time as a family … sans the wine. So stay safe. Know your alcohol limits. Stay hydrated. And if you’re hosting a party, keep your guests fed and hydrated as well. And finally, when you hit the road make sure you’re sober, well-rested and not distracted. Have fun and #SummerResponsibly! HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!
