My family travels a LOT. We’ve been flying with our kids basically since they were born. So if there’s one thing I can give advice on, it’s traveling with kids! Flying with babies and young kids can be really stressful, but it doesn’t have to make you pull all of your hair out. Here are 3 awesome Mom Hacks that will keep you from totally losing your mind.
Hack #1: Distract Your Kid
Babies and toddlers get bored easily. So to keep them occupied on the plane, hit the dollar store and stock up on a bunch of cheap things they’ve never seen before. Swapping out shiny, new objects will keep kids occupied and distract them. I recommend a new toy for every 15 minutes on the plane. That might sound like a lot, but your sanity is worth it!
Hack #2: Fend off the Hangries
Feeding a baby on a plane can be stressful and the last thing you want is a hungry baby when you’re in the air! To avoid a mid-air hangry meltdown, prep your bottles ahead of time. Measure out your formula and assemble your bottles at home, but don’t add water yet! I like Store Brand Formula because I’m a bargain hunter and it costs 50% less than other brands, but has all the same essential FDA-approved nutrients. And it’s super convenient. You should be able to sail through security with your prepped bottles because you won’t have any “liquids” that will be an issue with TSA. Once you pass through security, hit a kiosk and buy bottled water to mix into the formula. If your baby snubs his nose at anything but a warm bottle, you can get a flight attendant to give you a splash of hot water to warm the formula up. Be sure to prep enough bottles to cover the length of the trip, plus an extra bottle or two in case your flight is delayed or it takes a long time to get your luggage and get out of the airport (doesn’t it always???).
Hack #3: Don’t Get Caught with Wet Pants
We all know it’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes for your kid when you travel. But I’m here to tell you that you should also bring pants, a shirt and undies for yourself. That way if your baby pees or pukes or poops on you (did I say if? I mean, when!) you won’t have to sit in soiled clothes for hours on end!
I hope these tips help ease your mind about traveling with baby. It can be done and it can even be fun! Be sure to follow Store Brand Formula on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube for more awesome Mom Travel Hacks! Happy Travels!
