Today is the one-year anniversary of MyLifeSuckers.
And wow. Just wow! What an amazing year it’s been. A year ago I posted my What Does the Kid Say video as a joke. Shockingly, it went viral and MyLifeSuckers was born. And since that day, my life has really been a dream come true.
Ever since kindergarten, I wanted to be an actress. I studied acting my whole life. I moved to LA after college and worked six jobs at once to pursue acting. I got some bites, but nothing huge. (One day I’ll show you a tape of me playing a French maid on Days of Our Lives. And not a sexy French maid.)
And then I became a mom, and my dreams were placed on hold while I wiped butts and threw myself into my yogurt-coated existence.
But the nagging feeling was always there. I wanted to perform. I wanted to share my goofy humor with the world. But I knew my dreams were dead. Because how could I—a full-time mom with a part-time job and a pile of laundry taller than the Empire State building—ever pursue my dreams again? I knew they would never come true.
And then they did.
When Gabe bought me my video camera last year, I felt stressed and scared. I knew by handing me that camera, he was handing me back the possibility of my dreams. And it terrified me.
So the camera sat there, untouched, for months.
And then one day I got inspired. The silly idea for What Does the Kid Say came to me as I was watching my kids play at the park. I ran home, hid in my room, jotted the lyrics down and finally unpacked that video camera.
We shot it in the back yard and at the local park with our awesome friends the Haggarty family. Gabe and I taught ourselves Garageband and iMovie and edited it after the kids went to bed. It was a blast. And when it was done, Gabe thought it was kind of cute and suggested we toss it up on YouTube.
When the video went viral I was blown away. Never in my wildest dreams did I think more than 30 people would ever see it. And the fact that it went viral gave me a chance to live my dream again. And I couldn’t have done it without you all. So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
How do I even begin to express my thanks to you all for this year? Thank you for watching my videos. Thank you for reading my posts.
