Wait … what??? 2015 is over? Um, didn’t it just start? Isn’t it, like, February or something? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE????? Time is passing way too quickly. This year was a total blur for me. Between the video madness and my crazy home life 2015 just went WHOOSH. But it’s fun to look back and reflect on all the stuff I can’t remember from the year; including my videos. I started posting weekly videos every Tuesday in June and it’s been nonstop insanity ever since. So now I take a breath. And reflect. And think, “wait, I made that video THIS year?” So here they are, my top 11 videos of 2015:
11. Bus Don't Move – Bust a Move Parody
This video won my heart this year. It was for such a good cause and I felt honored to spread the word about school bus safety. Plus, I always wanted to do a parody of Bust a Move because it’s pretty much my favorite song on earth. I got interviewed on Good Morning America when this video came out. Which was insane and amazing and made me a big fan of Robin Roberts, a former school bus driver herself. What an inspiring lady! And she even complimented the thrift store shirt I wore on national television.
10. How to Take Your Kids to the Beach in 18 Easy (NOT!) Steps
This was our first “easy steps” video taken on a real vacation in Florida this summer. As always, it was inspired by reality. Unfortunately.
9. Whip Nae Nae Christmas Parody
We had a blast dancing the whip nae nae in this silly video. The kids were adorable and totally did the dance way better than the adults did. And Santa dunking the basketball was one of my favorite moments of the video year.
8. Booger – Sugar Parody
This video grossed people out. But you still watched it. So thank you.
7. How to Get the Perfect Family Photo in 18 “Easy” Steps
This video captured the reality of our insane family photo shoot. The pictures from the shoot are my favorite photos ever taken of my family and yes, I used them on my Christmas card. How could I resist?
6. If Moms Were Uber Drivers
This is my favorite sketch video I’ve ever done because of my friend Rick. He just killed it. His expression of desperation makes me laugh every time I watch it. He looks like a caged animal just dying to get the heck out of my car. And the interaction between him and my daughter is priceless.
5. Lips Are Movin – My Lips Are Movin Parody
My kids often say this is their favorite MyLifeSuckers parody. I just love the outfits I got to wear in it. Thanks Meghan Trainor for the inspiration! I mean a cat dress? Now that's awesome.
4. Bad Mom – Bad Blood Parody
We had so much fun making this video! Six of my favorite mom friends came over and we had a blast beating one another up and acting like tough mothers (literally). This video was covered by everyone from Today Parents to E! to Mashable to Buzzfeed and was dubbed one of the 8 Great Parody Videos to Watch Before the VMAs by People Magazine.
3. Bohemian Momsody – Bohemian Rhapsody Parody
I had wanted to parody this song for YEARS, but never had the guts to try to recreate the epic scope of Queen’s masterpiece. The best part about this video in my humble opinion was the ending. My daughter totally surprised me which I loved! This video was trending on Yahoo and ABC interviewed me about it. I was honored to see it land on a list of Top 5 Tributes for the 40th anniversary of the song. Hopefully Freddie Mercury wouldn't have cringed too badly to hear me mom-ify and screech out his beautiful song.
2. Adele Hello Mom Parody
I had so much fun dressing up like Adele for this video. And visually it’s one of my favorites because my camera guy Aaron got to get all artsy. He’s amazing behind the camera and it was nice to let him do his thang instead of just filming me going fake pee. Well, I guess he did that in this too, but … I just did an interview with Fox10 yesterday to chat about this video. While hiding in the bathroom of course!
1. Suburban Funk – Uptown Funk Parody
My biggest video of the year was Suburban Funk. It went kind of insanely viral. I was interviewed on The Today Show in Australia and Headline News for it. Al Roker joked on The Today Show that I must have been drinking mommy juice to come up with the idea. But really it was Jacquie who was drinking the mommy juice because Suburban Funk was her idea, I just ran with it. Thanks Jacquie!
I really actually want to pause here and say how grateful I am to Jacquie. She's been so amazingly there for me through all this and I am so grateful. I'm also incredibly grateful to my husband Gabe who is my rock. And to my camera guy Aaron who is so fun to collaborate with. I also want to give a huge shout out to everyone who, or whose children, were in my videos this year: Rick, Chandra, Abbey, Lizzie, Sharon, James, Judith, Joe, Simon, Mac, Eva, Jenese, Karen, Amanda Reed, Amanda Larkin, Kelly, Dan, Hillary, Rebecca, Oksana, Marcy, Heather, Cheri, Colleen, Angie, Evelyn, Suzanne, Emily, Helen, Mechelle, Jessie, Kathy, Alyssa, my mom, my stepdad, my brother, all of the adorable children and everyone I picked up off the street to be in Suburban Funk. It takes a village, and my village is AMAZING. And of course I have to thank my two adorable life suckers. You may suck my life, but more than that you give me life and I love you.
And last but not least, I am so grateful to YOU for all the support this year! I appreciate all the views and shares and comments and support and love more than you will ever know. THANK YOU! And Happy New Year! May your 2016 be the stuff dreams are made out of. xo, Deva
